New Snooker and Pool Bar for Ripley

Two local pool and snooker champions, Pete Wright and John Strange, have opened Ripley’s first/latest/newest Snooker and Pool Club. Based in Booth Street, PJ’s can already boast two snooker teams and a pool team playing in the local leagues but more players are needed.

The club is open daily from midday to midnight and there is no entrance or membership fee, although under 14’s are required to leave by 9.00pm. Pete and John have set up the club to cater for all levels of play and to provide all round light entertainment. Pete adds, ‘We’ve aimed for a comfortable club with separate areas for snooker and pool.  In addition there’s a plush lounge area, a fully stocked bar, gaming and quiz machines and large TV screens. Having played both competitively and for enjoyment in a number of different clubs around the area, we know just what players and spectators need for an entertaining afternoon or night out and PJ’s provides it all.’

A regular series of pool and snooker tournaments for junior and adult players are planned, with cash prizes and trophies for the winners. Pete and John also hope to start a darts team and interested players should get in touch.

Pete Wright and John Strange are well known in the Ripley area having played pool and snooker in many different clubs over the last 20 years. They’ve won many tournaments nationally including the 3 Man Golden Cue, England’s largest amateur Pool contest, in 2000. This year the Golden Cue attracted 256 teams. Snooker is one of the most popular sports in the United Kingdom and is played by over 4 million adults.

Ends. October 2006.
